From Atoms to Stars

Atomcsill
Youtube

The story of " From Atoms to Stars" started in 2005, and after 16 years it is still going further, reaching more and more people every year. In this lecture series researchers from the Institute of Physics at ELTE, or physicists who graduated here but continued their work elsewhere, present the latest and most interesting discoveries and new developments in physics to a general audience. They talk about how the countless interesting phenomena of physics can be related to everyday life, and also where all these wonders can be better understood, researched and studied in case someone is interested in becoming a physicist. Traditionally, the lectures are followed by stimulating and entertaining experimental demonstrations. I was a demonstrator for the first time in 2013, but from 2017 I became the chief demonstrator and the organiser responsible for the experiments.

Physics Roadshow

Fiz roadshow

The Institute of Physics at Eötvös Loránd University is very keen to introduce the beauty of science to as many primary and secondary school students as possible, and to orient them towards higher education in physics. To this end, we are organising a nationwide roadshow, offering special lessons with spectacular experimental demonstrations and interesting science and career guidance lectures. Regarding the current pandemic we have moved our presentations to the online space.

Náboj Competition

Náboj

Since 2016 I have been the chief organiser of the Hungarian round of Naboj Physics, where we provide an opportunity for 100-200 hungarian students to challenge themselves in international waters. Naboj Physics is an international competition for secondary school students, with teams of five. At the beginning of the competition each team is given 8 problems, and as soon as a team solves any of the tasks correctly, they get a new one. The team that solves the most problems wins. The Naboj tasks are different from the routine tasks in the textbook, which usually require the direct application of a particular method. In contrast, Naboj problems require ingenuity and creativity. Success depends not only on the individual skills of the team members, but also on the effectiveness of their cooperation. In addition to reinforcing imagination and logical reasoning, the competition aims to show the hidden beauties of physics. The quality of the problems is guaranteed by the organisers of the Slovakian Trojsten Physics Correspondence Seminars.

Researchers' Night

Kutatók Éjszakája

The European Researchers' Night is the most exciting event of the year, the alpha of all science lovers and the omega of every sci-fi fan. Since 2013 the physicists of ELTE are in on the fun too. I started as a demonstrator in 2013, but became the chief organiser in 2016. We started with a very popular, all-evening experimental demonstration and a few isolated lectures, but the event has grown bigger every year. Now we offer a whole spectrum of interesting physics related programs. The indispensable spectacular experiments, where we present a selection of fascinating and exciting tricks from different areas of physics, some of which anyone can try out. A series of gripping lectures on a broad spectrum of physics mainly for high school and university students, but for any kind of physics enthusiasts. We also give the opportunity to visit several ELTE laboratories and to taste first-hand what it's like to be a physicist. The bravest visitors can even try a very unique experience and test their logic and scientific skills in the Physicists' Escape Room. And because we believe in the beauty and importance of interdisciplinary connections, and that training the body is as important as training the mind, in our event anyone can also learn about the physics of pole sports, and try this amusing sport for themselves.
